Actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been confirmed as the lead in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film, which will be written by the Indo-American director in collaboration with American novelist Nicholas Sparks, according to Deadline. The movie, which does not yet have a title, will explore a supernatural romantic suspense and is being developed simultaneously as both a film and a novel.
M. Night Shyamalan will handle the script of the film, while Nicholas Sparks will write the corresponding novel. The production will be managed by Blinding Edge Pictures, with Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan, along with Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock, Sparks' partners. Sparks will also serve as executive producer on the project.
Shyamalan is known for his suspense films like 'The Sixth Sense', which earned him several Academy Award nominations, including Best Director, as well as 'Unbreakable', 'Signs', and more recently 'Old'. On the other hand, Nicholas Sparks is a prolific novelist whose works have been bestsellers, many of which have been adapted into films.
Jake Gyllenhaal, for his part, had a successful year in 2024 with his participation in Apple TV+'s 'Presumed Innocent', which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, in addition to starring in the Amazon Studios version of 'Road House'.
The combination of talent in this project promises to capture the attention of followers of suspense and romantic drama films.
